I like to read statistics and numbers and since the boom of social platforms like Facebook and Twitter, more and more adults (young and old) are facing more issues with anxiety, depression, and general emotional distress. I don't know a single person who spends hours on these platforms daily who is happy. It is sad to see what they are doing to people and how addicted they have become. I prefer forums and always have done. It keeps discussions in a certain direction and even with everyone have differences, there is always an established common ground.

Social media today is the one thing we are all turning to as a way of getting through the day, it might be our outlet for many abilities to communicate with others.
It is also a time-waster and you could be more productive without it, or some people use it state to the world, what a wonderful life I have, even if they dont or to
brag what is happening, even if it is not.
A place to put out to the world, look at my accomplishments,or just to make them feel important.
I am actually trying to turn it off, I know the situation out in the world, but I want to start going back into my own bubble, and think of what I can do
with this time, to better my life, with my goals and what needs changing.

I wish more people would consider this. I see a lot of people who have left and not only feel better but are happier and doing more in life again. I feel like it ends up becoming a roadblock in many people's lives and something that actually hinders growth in many aspects.
I feel it is too easy these days to be nasty to someone and to ruin their lives and self-esteem and with the winter and frigid temperatures, we are spending
more time on the computer. Do you think our own emotional health ever comes into how you feel about someone?
I had never really thought about it, until it impacted me personally and it was like ohh My God, why? like your worst nightmare! I had been dating a man
and sent some pics and he then posted them on porn sites and signed me up, and my phone number! All because of a rejection of him, I was nice but his behaviors were like umm no. so court orders and humiliation that my family don't know about? So never ever fall into this ...

Well, i can say social media is ruining the "social interactions" as we know it. But i wouldn't blame it entirely. It all depends on how you use it. Social media is just a tool, that will offer you either productivity or waste your time.
We do not get together socially period even before life, technology changed our way of thinking and our social norms, period. We stopped checking in on people,
I did this morning my neighbour, put her home up for sale, I checked in if she needed any help? Why she is a senior and a widow, and sometimes you just need that friend to help. On the other hand with winter and cold temps and isolation as well as COVID, technology has helped me to give me balance and a sense of
well being.
Social media is just a tool. A tool is designed to be helpful, but how you use it will determine whether it will help you or not. People are abusing social media, hence the whole thing turns out to be considered bad. I think it just depends on how we use it.

This is a fair point. You can say the same for things like religion. Religion is essentially a tool that can be both beneficial and destructive depending on the people.
I know there are sections and groups on social media that don't use it as a means to be popular or hate each other but rather socialize in a fanbase, similar to what you would see on a forum which I think can be great. The hate and selfishness is just was, unfortunately, gets the most attention.

Definitely how we use it plays a great role, but the problem comes with the majority of users using it in a bad way, and thus putting peer pressure to follow suit
@junamo True, peer pressure and struggling to be the coolest and the happiest are the major problems that causes people to be dangerously addicted to social media. Honestly, it is not doing us any good. Instead, it makes people have some wishful thinking and want to be cool like everyone else's.
You are right, social media is making people to be zombies. As much as you can leverage it for business, lately, it is wasting more of people's time than the good it is doing to them.
Honestly the biggest impact is on younger kids, everyone is trying to grow up so fast because of social media and what they think is normal
