How do you manage to keep your writing simple?

This is very difficult for me because one of the constant feedback I've received was that my writing is too simple, so it's gone into my head and I always over-complicate things.

You can’t “keep” your writing simple and concise. You edit your writing to be simple and concise.

Write whatever comes off your fingertips. Go back and cut out everything that isn’t simple and concise. It may take two or three passes to get to “simple and concise.”

Yes, as a newbie writer I was quite shocked to see how many times authors go back and rewrite almost everything they put down
